Brief -

Create a magazine layout for an article selected using Adobe InDesign. The article chosen to create a magazine layout for was 'Music Talks with Children' by Thomas Tapper.

Rationale -

The layout is designed with a color palette of gold, black and white and uses a serif font, and a sans serif font; these design choices help give the layout an elegant look, and represents simplicity, freedom and creativity. The picture of the piano and the gold plant also gives a gentle and pleasant feeling.

The picture is on the left page with the title so that the picture can stand out. The title is in a large sans serif font colored in gold so it stands out and matches the gold plant in the picture with the piano; the author’s name is in a serif font. The other page has a picture in the background with black text behind a solid white shape so that there is high contrast and it can stand out. All the text in the article is the same size, the quote gets a different treatment with larger font and different color and placement, the paragraphs are arranged so that there are no widows or orphans, and page numbers are added below.

Overall, the elements in the layout have good contrast, are aligned well, are legible and easy to understand, and represent the contents in the article appropriately.

Adobe Photoshop was used to place the design on a mockup so that it can be seen on real life objects.
